Seven burnt to death in car crash on Pathein-Chaungtha Road

Seven people including two children were burnt to death in a car crash involving a passenger bus and a private car on Pathein-Chaungtha Road in Ayeyawady Region on the afternoon of March 19.

The accident happened near Kalatchi Village on the road, killing all the people in the private car that caught fire after the crash.

We were contacted for help after the accident. In that a passenger bus going to Pathein to the Chaungtha beach collided head-on with a private car coming back from Chaungtha near Kalatchi Village. Two men, three women, two young children and a dog in the car were burnt to death. As the car caught fire after the crash, they were trapped inside. When we arrived there, we found only the charred bodies. We could only identify gender and children, said a Buddhist monk working on charity.  

When contacted, Naing Lin, deputy head of Pathein Township Fire Brigade, said: When we arrived at the scene, the car had already burnt down. It is said that the car caught fire after a car crash. The bus didnt catch fire. Seven people were burnt to deathtwo children and five adults. The car was completely burnt down. The windscreen of the bus broke and the bumper was damaged. But no one on board was hurt.  

A fire engine from the fire brigade rushed to the scene but the car had burnt down when it arrived. So, the firefighter together with aid organization members helped with other necessary assistance.
