WFP has released a statement saying that it has started distributing food and rice to over vulnerable 800,000 people in Yangon Region.

Aid was distributed to those living in Shwepyitha, North Oakkalapa and Dagon Seikkan townships.

The distribution of foods including rice in humanitarian assistance has started to a total of 875,000 people. In cooperation with volunteers and members of Myanmar Red Cross Society, WFP staff members are making sure that food and rice directly go to vulnerable people in the target areas, the statement says.

Since May 2021, WFP has provided assistance for over a million vulnerable people in the townships of Dagon Seikkan, Dala, Hlaingthaya, North Oakkalapa and Shwepyitha in Yangon Region as well as in the townships of Mahaaungmyay and Aungmyaythazan in Mandalay Region.

Meanwhile, monthly food rations or cash are being provided for conflict-affect 360,000 people in Kachin, Chin, Rakhine and Shan states, the statement says.

WFP stresses the need to prioritize continuous aid to thousands of people displaced by recent fighting in Kayin State, Kayah State, Chin State, Sagaing Region, Magway Region and southern Shan State.

The European Union donated 4 million euro to WFP for increasing humanitarian need in Myanmar. Emergency food and nutritious supplies were distributed to over 3.5 million people in Kachin, Rakhine, Chin and Shan states, the WFP statement says.
