Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM) has issued a directive urging money changer license (MC) and authorized dealer license holders to avoid the currency manipulation that may lead to a distrust of economic stability and monetary system by the people and destabilize the foreign currency exchange rate.
Foreign Exchange Management Department at the CBM issued four directives for money changer (MC) license holders and authorized dealer (AD) license holders in July and November, 2012, May in 2015 and January, 2017. This is the 5th directive issue by the CBM.
The CBM has warned that it shall take action against the MC and AD license holders in accordance with the Foreign Currency Management Law if they fail to abide by it.
The central bank has distributed it to all non-banking companies and organizations which have MC license and all banks which have AD licenses.
Anyone who breaks the provision of the Foreign Exchange Management Law covers the provision which carries up to three-year imprisonment and a fine.
