According to sources, the detained Mandalay Region Chief Minister Dr Zaw Myint Maung's appeal for bail had been denied by the local township court and any other submissions to the district court will have to be done by May 13.

On May 7, Dr Zaw Myin Maung and Mandalay's Mayor Dr Ye Lwin had their court hearing but was rescheduled instead to may 21.

The appeal for bail for both was denied on April 9. Lawyers representing them had submitted the bail appeal, in lieu of their poor health condition, to the district court, thus the decision that it must be done on May 13 latest.

"As everyone may already know, the bail appeal is because of Sayar Zaw's cancer but it was denied because the court deemed him fit to walk around and that he will recieve medical attention in the prison. They denied bail for everyone, including Dr Ye Lwin and other ministers. That's why we are going up to the district level to appeal for bail. Only that happened in the court hearing today (May 7) so the case didn't progress," said an advocate.

According to the National League for Democracy's statements, Dr Zaw Myint Maung has been sued under Section 505(b) and natural disaster law Section 25. Mandalay Mayor Dr Ye Lwin is being charged with Section 505(b) at the Aungmyaytharsan Township court while the construction and electricity minister Zarni Aung and farm and irrigation minister Dr Soe Than is being charged with natural disaster law Section 25/30. The natural resource minister Myo Thit is being charged under Section 505(b) while Mandalay's municipal member Kyaw Zayya is being sued under Section 505(b) as well atChanayetharsan Township court.
