On April 15, prominent anti-coup protest leader Ko Wai Moe Naing was arrested in Monywa, Sagaing Region.
He was part of a motorcycle protest column when he was arrested near Thar Si Road in Monywa, near the Myoma Shwe Gu Monastery.
"We were carrying out a motorcycle protest. Ko Wai Moe Naing's motorcycle was hit by (their) car and he fell along with the motorcycle. He got up and tried to run but he was chase after and caught. He was the only one caught," said a female participant of the protest column.
Security forces have been hunting down anti-coup civilians and protest leaders.
In regards to his arrest, the Swedish Embassy in Myanmar released a statement on April 15.
It says that the embassy was made aware of Ko Wai Moe Naing's arrest on April 15 and according to video evidence, he was hit by a car prior to his arrest. The embassy said that they are watching his situation closely and had requested proper medical treatment for all those that have been arrested and for their human rights to be respected.
