YANGON-------As the Coronavirus pandemic continues to hammer down on the hotel business, Shangri-La Hotel will be closing temporarily since the beginning of February 1st, according to the announcement of Sule Shangri-La Yangon Hotel released on January 13th.
The COVID-19 pandemic had slammed Sule Shangri-La’s hotel business. So, the hotel firstly laid down the Cost Management plans to reduce the salary of the staff and to suspend job offerings since December last year.
The hotel is fulfilling the salaries as the relevant posts within eight months ago. Nevertheless, the hotel has been forced to impact on its hotel business.
Sule Square Mall & Office and Shangri-La Residences which are part of Shangri-La Group will be operating their services for the guests. Moreover, the Sule Shangri-La Hotel already aims to reopen its hotel within nine months if the hotel business will have improved again.
Guests and clients affected by reservations at Sule Shangri-La Hotel will be contacted personally, all cancelling charges will be waived.
Moreover, most hotel staff except a small core team which maintains and upkeeps operations in the whole of the hotel complex will be placed on extended leave-of-absence and will not have to return to work during the hotel shutdown period. But, hotel employees will enjoy partial pay and full healthcare benefits.
