Several ballot papers were mistakenly switched with another township's papers in the No.1 polling station of Mekong Ward, Tachileik Township, eastern Shan State on November 8.

Tachileik's election commission chair U Aung Min explained that the mistake was with Khon Phal.

"The polling station's leader only went to like a half-day training so he didn't understand certain details. So mistakes were made," he said.

He says that after realizing of the mistake, respective commission members, polling station staff, candidates and polling station representatives were convened. After agreeing to the honest mistake, over 100 voters were called back to replace with the wrongfully casted votes.

"We just went through the records of the voters for the ballots, double check it with data and called them all back according to their addresses for them to re-vote," said U Aung Min.

The mistake was only for the Pyitthu Hluttaw seat and according to U Aung Min, around 90 had already came back to cast their votes again as of 6pm November 8.

"We discussed it amongst ourselves, came up with a solution and they agreed to it. So we went ahead with it. Everyone agreed," he said.

Shan Nationalities League of Democracy General Secretary U Sai Leik said that "it might not be a problem if it was like around fourty to fifty but this mistake to over a hundred. This is gross negligence."
