TAUNGOO----The police dispersed the crowd that held a vehicle rally in support of National League for Democracy (NLD) in downtown Taungoo Township, Bago Region, yesterday morning.

Some youths in Taungoo held the NLD Car Sticker campaign and participating vehicles gathered and drove around the downtown streets. The NLD car sticker campaign tour started from Maidar Playground in Taungoo Township yesterday morning.

However, the regional police members stopped the car rally near the Bogyoke Statue on Kanlan road in Taungoo, according to reports.

“The authorities told us about the NLD car sticker campaign which must be held under Peaceful Assembly Law. If the party will launch it, they must submit the permission for a canvassing campaign. As for the public, they must first submit for the permission under the Peaceful Assembly Law,” explained Police Captain Kyaw Kyaw Oo from No. 1 Police Station in Taungoo Township to those who participated in the rally.

Although plans were underway to launch the NLD car sticker campaign in Yadeshae Township, they completed only one third of the route due to the prohibition of the police. The campaign aims for the NLD supporters who must completely take off logos, flags and stickers concerning the NLD until the evening of November 6th, says Si Thu Maung who led the NLD car sticker campaign.

One of the locals that participated in the car sticker campaign said that the original plan was for there to be only 40 vehicles. But about 90 vehicles joined in the campaign. Thus the police banned the campaign in accordance with the Peaceful Assembly Law.

There were no other problems during the NLD car sticker campaign.
