MYITKYINA------A family of seven including an employee from Myitkyina KBZ Bank (1) and an in-charge of Myitkyina bus terminal have tested positive for Covid-19.
The 27-year-old KBZ staff member served her banking duty till October 13. She lost her sense of smell on October 17 and tested positive for the coronavirus on October 18.
Another member of the family who is an in-charge of the bus terminal was infected as he had close contact with a patient in Sagaing Region. Again, a four-member family including his bus conductor also tested positive Covid-19, according to the Kachin State Public Health Department’s Facebook page.
“These cases emerged after tests were carried out in Myitkyina. More cases may come. We assume that infections came from the bus terminal in-charge. The health department will announce details,” said Dr Nay Win from Myitkyina People’s Hospital.
The Myinkyina Township administrator, Than Win, said: “The bank staff’s duty was doing accounts. So, she had little contact with others. There are nine persons in close contact with her. They will have testing on October 19. There are eight families who have contact with a child who is also in close contact. At the terminal, there are two other staff members. Decisions will come depending on the tests from the bank. Now, over 20 people are in quarantine.”
Kachin State has seen 94 Covid-19 cases. Nineteen of them are still in hospital in Myitkyina and Hpakant.
Till October 10, the state had 3,078 people in quarantine and 419 were waiting for the lab results.
