A prisoner locked in a cell at Pyinmana Township police station has been found infected with COVID-19 virus on October 13 and about 30 policemen and prisoners have been put into isolation at the municipal guesthouse in Nay Pyi Taw, said Dr Myat Wunna Soe, Deputy Director General of Public Health Department for Nay Pyi Taw.

“A total of 22 prisoners are isolated with the policemen who have contact with the confirmed patient. We provided them with reserve rooms to put them into quarantine,” he said.

A total of 13,258 samples were tested between 8 pm of October 12 and 8 pm of October 13 and found 1,123 new confirmed patients, announced the Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS) on the night of October 13.

“According to our policy, we have assigned days to take swab tests for the people who have contact with the confirmed patients. They will be kept in quarantine for two weeks,” he said.

According to the announcement made by the MOHS, Myanmar found 30,437 confirmed patients from 441,926 test samples till October 13 and 11,769 of them are allowed to be discharged from the hospital. A total of 693 people died.
