MANDALAY-A landslide occurred at the old gems mining site being owned by Kaday-Kadar Gems Mining Enterprise in Kyaukpyat village, Mogok Township, Pyin Oo Lwin District, Mandalay Region on August 12th killing two scavengers, according to Myanmar Social Welfare and Rescue Team.
Myanmar Social Welfare and Rescue Team from Mogok Township together with its allied organizations went to the scene of the incident and carried out rescue activities.
“About a 250-ft deep shaft collapsed at the old mining site owned by Kaday-Kadar Gems Mining Enterprise in Mogok Township. There were seven miners. Five escaped from the incident but two workers died. We carried out the bodies of the workers,” said Hein Htet Maung from Myanmar Social Welfare and Rescue Team in Mogok Township.
Similarly, an old mining site collapsed in Pyarswarlu village in Mogok Township, in the evening of August 11th. Three gems miners were trapped at the mining site. Two were alive but one was missing. So, the authorities carried out rescue activities and then they found a body of a missing miner in the mud.
