HINTHADA-Strong wind hit two townships in Hinthada district, Ayeyawady Region in the evening of May 6th, causing over 100 houses and some school buildings to be damaged.

“In Myanaung Township, the roofs of three houses were blown out and there were nine victims. Fifteen houses collapsed in Kyangin Township due to powerful wind. And the roofs of 107 houses including religious buildings and two monasteries were partially blown out as well as a school was completely damaged,” said Thein Zaw Htike, Assistant-Director from Disaster Management Department in Hinthada District.

“We registered the list of damages and victims in the strong wind hit areas. We evacuated a mother and her 15-day infant baby. We’ve planned to support cash and kinds to the victims in cooperation with the District Social Welfare and Resettlement Department and Township Natural Disaster Management Team. Currently, the firefighters together with the red-cross members and CSOs are carrying out the cleaning activities in strong wind that hit Kyangin Township,” said MP Thaw Zin Win from Kyangin Township.

The Kyangin Township had suffered twice from strong winds. On Myanmar New Year Day which fell on April 17th, over 90 houses in Kyangin Township were destroyed due to the strong wind.
