TAUNGYI-The Shan State’s Chief Minister, four Regional Ministers and Parliament Speaker are under Facility Quarantine at a guest house on April 20th , said spokesperson Soe Nyunt Lwin, also the Planning and Finance Minister for Shan State.
The Shan State Chief Minister, accompanied by his entourage: Municipal Affairs Minister, Roads and Transport Minister, Social Welfare Minister, the Burma ethnic affairs Minister and Shan State Parliament Speaker visited Tachileik, Kungtung and Mungyaung Townships in eastern Shan State.
On arrival from their tour, the driver of the Parliament Speaker and the Personnel Staff Officer of the Shan State Police Chief tested COVID-19 positive.
So, four ministers, the Parliament Speaker and the Shan State Chief Minister are under Facility Quarantine in the government's guest house on April 20th.
“The Chief Minister and four ministers launched an eastern Shan State. In Kungtung, the Social Welfare minister tested his entourage with rapid test kits being donated to the Shan State Government Committee. However, the Ministry of Health and Sports didn’t officially recognize those test kits. Later, 30 persons including four regional ministers, parliament speaker and the Shan State Chief Minister were tested with the Rapid Test Kits. The Chief Minister and four regional ministers did not show positive for the virus. But, the PSO of the Shan State Police Head and Parliament Speaker’s driver tested COVID-19 positive. We never use the test kits as well as the doctors carefully tested those test kits,’ said Soe Nyunt Lwin.
“As the chief minister and regional minister are medics, they are under Facility Quarantine in Shan State Government’s guest house. Those authorities will be going to stay at the Quarantine Center for a few days. Two suspect patients were kept in Kungtung People’s Hospital. We transported swabs taken from two suspected COVID-19 patients to Yangon on Tuesday morning. All security guard forces accompanied in the eastern Shan State tour are kept under hotel quarantine. We didn’t know exactly whether the results tested with Rapid test kits are true or not. Moreover, we can decide whether the rapid test kits will be used or not. It depends on the result coming from Yangon Lab Laboratory. Moreover, it will be positive without showing any symptoms. We think about how many silent carriers are among the public. Now, Shan State Chief Minister and its counterparts are now in Facility Quarantine by themselves,” said Soe Nyunt Lwin.
