YANGON- Government allowed 71 returnees from foreign countries to go back to their homes yesterday, after receiving 14-day Hotel Quarantine at the Yangon International Air Port Hotel.
“Those returnees were students. They returned from the foreign countries on March 22nd. Our Chairman Dr Naing Win heard that the students faced accommodation problem when keeping a 14-day quarantine. So, he[Dr Naing Win] helped in finding two hotels . We placed them[student returnees] at Yangon Air Port Hotel and Seven Miles Hotel. However, the hotel staffs are afraid of COVID-19 virus. So, one third of the hotel staffs are now joining hand other volunteers to carry out the hotel quarantine. It is 14-day hotel quarantine. No one has found. Therefore, we allowed them to go back home. We don’t know how authorities will appreciate us. The hotels were littered with rubbish. We had to take a month to clean it all up. Under the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Sports, we instructed the returnees to live in isolation at the hotel’s rooms. We spray the disinfectant solution in the rooms daily. Concerning the food, we provided four food shops. Moreover, the entertainment programs were held at the Seven Miles Hotel on April 4th,” said Director Saw Mo Naing from H7 Group of Hotel & Resorts.
“At the Yangon Air Port Hotel, there are a total of nine persons including three volunteers, two medical workers being assigned by the health department, two nurses and two volunteers from the University of Medicine. We collected the rubbishes and sprayed a disinfectant solution in the rooms. We have no difficulties. Those returnees obeyed the 14-day quarantine program. The municipal workers came into the hotel between 1 pm and 2 pm to collect the rubbish. If the returnees will have a need, the volunteers helped them. We sprayed a disinfectant solution on the whole of the hotel at 7:30 pm. We are joining hand with the other Charity Associations to spray a disinfectant if we will be needed,” said Nan Oo Hlaing from Myint Myat Sadana Social Welfare Association.
41 males and 30 females were subject to hotel quarantine for 14 days.
When those returnees returned back to their homes, spraying disinfectant had been carried out at the hotels.
