A forest fire broke out in Mawtaung bordering Thailand on February 13 burning down some gardens, according to local sources.
The fire started in the town of Mawtaung, Myeik District, Taninthayi Region, on the morning of February 13 and was put out at about 12 pm, said Zaw Win, head of Myeik District Fire Brigade. The fire started from the edge of a forest in Ward-1, Mawtaung and burnt down some gardens.
Fire engines from Mawtaung Fire Station and Pyae Phyo Tun Oil Palm Company rushed to the scene to put out the fire. But they found it difficult to make way as there is no route to the scene. The fire occurred in the area far away from buildings.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
