Total tax revenues for untaxed income reached over Ks 686.352 billion during the six fiscal years, according to the Joint Public Accounts Committee.
The income tax revenues of untaxed income reached Ks 116.131 billion in 2014-15 FY, Ks 191.283 billion in 2015-16 FY, Ks 128.033 billion in 2016-17 FY, Ks 105.352 billion in 2017-18 FY and Ks 98.672 billion in 2018-19 FY. In addition, it reached Ks 46.881 billion in the six-month mini budget 2018.
According to Internal Revenue Department under the Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry, the collection of undisclosed income taxes from 56,727 businesses exceeded Ks 21.478 billion in 2019-20 FY—Is 10.521 billion from real estate sector, Ks 8.473 billion from the automobile sector, Ks 2.164 billion from other sector (including vessels and motorbikes).
In 2018, the IRD levied Ks 13.996 billion in untaxed income on 18,222 businesses—2,023 from the real estate sector, 2,652 from the vehicle sector and 13,547 from other sectors (vessel and motorbike).
According to the 2019 Union Budget Law, the income tax rates levied on unpaid income are reduced.
Under the 2019 Union Tax Law, the IRD reduces the tax rates for untaxed income. As from October 1, 2019-2020 fiscal year, the tax rate will be three per cent for untaxed income ranged between Ks1-100 million, five per cent between Ks above 100 million-300 million, ten per cent between Ks above 300 million- one billion, 15 per cent between Ks above one billion and Ks three billion and 30 per cent between Ks three billion and above.
The Union Parliament approved it at its session on 19 September.
