YANGON- Western Disturbances are now heading for upper Myanmar and thus rain, strong winds and hailstones are likely to occur, says Hla Tun, Deputy-Director from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).
“Due to Western Disturbances, cloud banks strongly are now moving towards upper Myanmar. So, rain will be scattered from fairly widespread in the above regions and people are needed to warn against the strong wind and hailstones,” said Hla Tun.
According to weather forecast made by the DMH on December 30th, the rain will be fairly widespread from scattered in upper Sagaing Region, Kachin, Shan and Chin States and scattered from isolated in Nay Pyi Taw, lower Sagaing, Mandalay and Magway Regions and Rakhine State between January 1st and 6 due to westerly wind.
A low-pressure area may form over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal during January. Weather will be partly cloudy over the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal, according to the DMH.
Rain are likely above normal in upper Sagaing Region, Kachin, Shan and Chin States, below normal in Yangon and Ayeyawady Regions and Mon State and about normal in Nay Pyi Taw, lower Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago and above normal in Nay Pyi Taw, lower Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago and Taninthayi Regions, Rakhine, Kayah and Kayin States. Rainy days are expected about 7 to 10 days in upper Sagaing Region, Kachin, Shan and Chin States, about 3 to 6 days in Nay Pyi Taw, lower Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago and Taninthayi Regions, Rakhine, Kayah and Kayin States and about 1 to 2 days in Yangon and Ayeyawady Regions and Mon State.
The night temperature will be about normal in Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing, Mandalay, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi Regions, Kachin, Shan, Chin, Rakhine, Kayah, Kayin and Mon States.
Foggy days will be expected about 15 to 21 days in upper Sagaing and Mandalay Regions, Kachin, Shan, Chin and Rakhine States and about 7 to 14 days in Nay Pyi Taw, lower Sagaing, Magway, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi Regions, Kayah, Kayin and Mon States.
