Over $137m earned from export of broken rice last FY

More than US$137 million was earned from exporting over 500,000 tons of broken rice in 2018-2019 fiscal year, according to the Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF). 

From October 1, 2018 to September 2019 in the previous FY, 519,034 tons of broken rice worth US$137.126 million were exported. 

Myanmar exports broken rice mainly to Belgium, Indonesia, China, the Netherlands and Britain, according to MRF. 

Over 224,000 tons of broken rice worth about US$60 million went to Belgium and over 100,000 tons worth over US$27 million to Indonesia. 

Most rice and broken rice are exported to China through Muse border trade camp while rice and broken rice also go to EU and African countries through maritime route. 

In order to reduce trade deficit and improve trade surplus, the ministry of commerce is taking measures such as adopting national export strategic plans, relaxing the procedures, encouraging the private sector, getting GSP and extending export market.
