Total FDI inflows expected to hit $ 5.8 bln in 2019-20 FY

The total FDI inflows are expected to hit 5.8 billion US dollars in 2019-2020 fiscal year, said Thant Zin Lwin, Secretary of Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC).

In 2018-2019 FY, the MIC allowed 282 foreign investments worth 2764.128 million US dollars. The total FDI hit 4158.474 million US dollars including investment promotion.

During the previous fiscal year, the FDI granted under the Special Economic Zone Law including investment promotion amounted to 362.280 million US dollars. The total FDI reached 4520.754 million US dollars.

In 2018-19 FY, Singapore topped the list of FDI. Myanmar is implementing the 20-year Myanmar Investment Promotion Plan in order to enable the country to become a middle-income country in 2030.

During the next 20 years, the total FDI is expected to reach over 220 billion US dollars and ensure the inflows of more responsible investments.

Under the 20-year Myanmar Investment Promotion Plan, the annual FDI inflows are expected to hit 5.8 billion US dollars from 2016-17 to 2020-21 FY, 8.5 billion US dollars from 2021-22 to 2025-26 FY, 12.3 billion US dollars from 2026-27 to 2030-31 FY and 17.6 billion US dollars from 2030-31 to 2035-36 FY.
