YANGON - As it is now the COVID-19 control period, Yangon General Hospital (YGH) is now discharging and turning away all inpatients except emergency cases.

“We denied all inpatients including operation cases. We gave appointment for operations at a later date. If inpatients can’t wait for our appointment for their operations, they can go through operations at hospitals nearest to them. There are many inpatients at the Yangon General Hospital and infectious diseases may spread. So we turned away inpatients except in emergency cases. Moreover, hospitals across the nation released a warning saying that the hospital will only allow a caretaker per patient. It is the original principal. However, the Yangon General Hospital is now giving medical treatments to only emergency patients,” said unidentified officer from Yangon General Hospital.

With the aim to prevent measures against the deadly COVID-19 outbreak, on one except a patient and a guard of a patient are allowed to enter the hospital, according to the YGH’s announcement.

Moreover, there are no street vendors and the guard of the patient around the YGH.
