According to IQ Air's report, Yangon was among the top countries with the highest air pollution in recent days. However, it has now dropped to rank 39 on the air pollution index.

Based on data released by IQ Air, Myanmar's Yangon was ranked 4th for air pollution on January 26 and moved to 8th place on January 28. By the end of January 28, the city had dropped significantly to rank 39.

On January 28, the countries and cities listed among the top 10 most polluted locations included Karachi and Lahore in Pakistan, ranked 1st and 2nd, respectively. Other cities included Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata in India; Kampala in Uganda; Dhaka in Bangladesh; Tashkent in Uzbekistan; and Kathmandu in Nepal.

Bangkok, Thailand, which had also been among the cities with the highest air pollution in recent days, dropped to rank 28 on the air pollution index.

The level of air pollutants is assessed using the international Air Quality Index (AQI), which measures air quality on a scale from 0 (good air) to 500 (air that poses immediate health risks). The AQI categorizes air quality into six levels, each represented by a specific color.

AQI 0–50 is marked as green, representing good air quality. AQI 51–100 is light pink, representing moderate air quality. AQI 101–150 is dark pink, considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. AQI 151–200 is light red, categorized as unhealthy. AQI 201–300 is dark red, marked as very unhealthy. AQI levels of 301 and above are marked as red, indicating hazardous air quality.

Health professionals warn that when the AQI exceeds 150, it is necessary to wear masks to protect against health risks.
