Plans are underway to conduct a feasibility study for construction of a fish market in Dala if there can be port land available, said Yangon Region Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein on August 13. 

"We don't know exactly about the site. There are fish ports in Yangon. But they are scattered. Some local people are not happy with fish ports because they produce smell. Another problem is water. There is an ice factory if we have a fish port. So, nearby people are short of water. This is the problem," said the chief minister. 

Kyimyindine fish market has difficulty at night when container trucks run. This is why we are still conducting a feasibility study. We don't know exactly. What we consider is that if a port area is available, we can get a site in Dala after the completion of Dala Bridge," he added. 

The Yangon Region government's major aim is to make sure that low-income people improve their living standard and reach a status of middle- or high-income people. To realize this goal, Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan (MSDP) was unveiled in August 2018. 

Being the commercial capital of Myanmar, Yangon is a driving force for the country's economy, said the chief minister.
