Yangon makes ready for about 3,000 quarantine centers: official

Yangon Region government is making ready for about 3,000 community-based facility quarantine centers which can accommodate 20,000 people, said Moe Hein, Director of the regional government on April 5.

He said Yangon Region has 31 people kept in hospital quarantine, 842 people kept in hotel quarantine and 2,088 people kept in facility quarantine till April 9.

“We made 3,000 quarantine centers in the region and 2,088 people are in facility quarantine. We kept about 2,100 people more in quarantine,” he said.

Yangon Region has found 12 out of 21 COVID-19 cases and the case-5 patient died on March 31.

“We can keep about 6,000 people in community-based facility quarantine. At present, 238 people are kept in the community-based facility quarantine. They can accommodate about 20,000 people,” he added.

The regional government is transforming Central Institute of Civil Services (Phaung Gyi) as a 1000-bed hospital to keep COVID-19 patient, said Moe Moe Suu Kyi, regional minister for immigration and human resources.

At the present, the Central Institute of Civil Services is preparing to accommodate the patients and it will be finished within days, she said.

Theinphyu boxing stadium is being prepared to keep about 150 COVID-19 suspects and disinfectants were sprayed on March 22.

Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister for Yangon Region said during a ceremony to donate cash, medicine and medical equipment for COVID-19 prevention, control and treatment measures held in Yangon on March 21 that they made ready for about 500 apartments in the region to keep COVID-19 patients in isolation if an outbreak occurs in the region.

The regional government had planned to build two 200-bed hospitals under the control of Yangon General Hospital if the outbreak occurs, said the chief minister.

According to an announcement from the Ministry of Health and Sports on April 4, a 24-year old woman returned from United State was found infected with COVID-19 virus, bring the total number of COVID-19 cases to 21.
