Yangon leads the list of human trafficking

There were 15 human trafficking cases in five regions and states in late April, with Yangon Region topping the list with seven cases.

Seven cases were reported in Yangon Region, four in Shan State, two in Kachin State and one each in Ayeyawady Region and Mandalay Region.

There were 21 human trafficking victims—19 females, one male child and one female child. All cases are linked to forced marriages in China.  The police arrested 10 men and 29 women in connection with human trafficking cases.

During the three-year tenure of the incumbent government, the Ministry of Home Affairs arrested 1,458 culprits for human trafficking, said Khaing Tun Oo, acting permanent secretary of the Home Affairs Ministry.
