A mass rally was held in front of Maha Bandoola Park in Yangon on February 27 in support of the joint constitutional amendment committee and the move to amend the 2008 constitution.

The rally was joined by about 3,000 people from various townships and organizations. Politicians and writers such as Mya Aye, Htin Linn Oo and Ko Lay (74) gave talks during the rally.

"If there are discrepancies in the constitution, the aim of this charter is to deceive the people. This independence monument reads "there must be equality in every nation". Go and look at it. State architects wrote down that every citizen must enjoy freedom and equality. By the way do we enjoy equality today?" said writer Htin Lin Oo.

The mass rally went according to the agenda such as playing national anthem, taking the salute of the State flag, the nine martyrs including General Aung San, keeping silence in honour of those who fell in successive democracy struggles and reading messages sent by various social organizations.

88' generation leader Mya Aye said: "This constitution was approved in 2008 when the whole Ayeyawady Region was hit by the cyclone Nargis seeing deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. I will point out why we oppose the constitution. Just turns the pages of the constitution. At that time, it said Myanmar had a population of over 57 million. According to the national census taken in 2014, the population is just over 54 million. There is the remaining 3 million. The figures were doctored. In May, the referendum (for the constitution) was held in Ayeyawady Region. How can we believe over 92 percent of the people voted for the constitution."
