YANGON-Yangon Region Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein instructed the relevant ministries to settle the labours’ issues.

More than 200 workers from five garment factories in Halingthaya and Shwepyitha Townships, were gathering in the front of Yangon Region Government Office on October 22nd and they held an overnight sit-in protest aiming to ask for the help from the regional government to help solve the violations of labour rights.

Therefore, Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein met with the labour representatives from five factories at the noon of October 23rd.

Later, the Yangon Chief Minister urged Moe Moe Suu Kyi, Yangon Region Minister for Immigration and Human Resources to settle the labour disputes.

“The Chief Minister heard about the labour problems by itself. He urged the relevant ministries including Moe Moe Suu Kyi to carry out our demands. And then, he listened to the labour problems and showed the ways which supported the solution of labour disputes,” said Moe Sandar Myint who leads the garment sector under the Action Labour Right Group.

As the workers had a chance to meet with the Yangon Region Chief Minister and his counter parts, around 220 workers left from the Regional Government Committee’s Office at the evening of October 23rd.
