Water level in Bago River is reached to its danger mark on August 6 and authorities warned residents lived along the riverbank and low-lying areas to be careful of flood, announced the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) for Bago Region.

“Water level in Bago River is likely to increase as monsoon season is strong and people lived along the riverbank and low-lying areas,” said Lwin Oo Maung, Assistant Director of the DMH for the region.

Kyaukkyisu, Ywarthit, Mazin, Kyunthayar, Zinetaung, Zinemyaurk, Kanyarni and low-lying wards are being submerged.

“We think the flood will not occur this year and the floods are occurred three times this year. Now houses are submerged under water. We cannot use transportation as well. Transaction is not good. Ordinary people are in difficulty,” said a local from Zinetaung ward.

A total of 26 schools in the region are closed from September 1 to 6.

Water level in Bago River is reached to 880 centimeters, which is its danger mark, and it will continue to increase.
