Flood water covered Yangon-Bago Road making traffic jammed as water level in Bago River exceeded over one foot above its danger mark on September 13 and authorities are opened 23 flood relief camps for over 13,000 flood victims.

Heavy rain poured down in upper areas of Bago River and authorities are releasing water from Zaungtu dam, which caused the water level in Bago River to exceed its danger mark. 

A total of 42 flood relief camps are opened in the region and more than 30,000 locals from 6,885 family households are taking shelter at the flood relief camps.

“We have opened flood management committee at Sasana Beikman in Bago to help flood victims. Government departments and welfare associations are helping them. I want to advice the donors to provide their donation to us instead of donating them individually,” said Thant Zaw Oo, head of general administrative department for Bago Region.

A total of 76 schools are now closed in the region.

Water level in Bago River is reached to 917 centimeters on September 13 and it may be still above its danger level in a few days time.
