State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, while holding a video conference with the people on the public transportation sector, said that people aren’t following health instructions fully concerning social distancing in public places.

Those participating in the discussion were YRTA’s Managing Director Aung Nyi Nyi Maw,, Ma Naing Naing,  and Zaw Lwin, who is  working  to prevent COVID-19 in trains.

“No matter what rules were laid down at this time, it was found out that very few followed them fully. For example, at the bus-stops, although there are marks for queuing for social distancing, people were crowding at a single place. I don’t know if the people lack understanding of the rules or they have zero tolerance for waiting buses. There are some townships where lockdown has been eased to a certain extent. We have to give hope to people. We don’t want them to give pressure because we do not know when this will be over. If there are more people following health instructions, there will be more good situations. Otherwise, the situation will be the same. There are more chances of spreading COVID-19,” said Aung San Suu Kyi.

Before COVID-19, there were 4500 YBS buses per day and after Thingyan, about 1300 to 2500 buses are running daily for commuters of 100,000 to 300,000 in Yangon according to Aung Nyi Nyi Maw, YRTA managing director.
