USDP’s proposed bill to amend Constitution for second time accepted to carry on

The Union Parliament accepted a bill to amend the Constitution for the second time submitted by the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) and would carry on in accord with parliamentary law and by-law, said T Khun Myat, Speaker of Union Parliament. 

The bill was meant to choose the region or state chief minister by the region or state parliament.

The bill was signed and submitted by Thein Tun of Kyaunggon constituency and 143 Union Parliament representatives.  

“The Union Parliament accepted the bill on February 11 in 2019. 143 representatives account for 20 % of the total ones of 657. Therefore, it will have to be discussed at the parliament according to Section 135 of Union Parliament By-Law,” said T Khun Myat.

Regarding Section 135 of Union Parliament By-Law, a Joint Committee to Study the Bill to amend the Constitution for the second time was formed with all committee members of Lower House and Upper House Bill Committees with Union Parliament Office Notification 14/2019 on 19 February 2019.

The notification and a copy of the draft bill had been distributed to the parliamentarians.
