UNESCO Myanmar announces 146 journalists arrested in Myanmar in one year of political upheaval

A total of 146 journalists: 26 female journalists and 120 male journalists had been detained in Myanmar during a year of political upheaval, announced UNESCO Myanmar on February 1, 2022.

Of the 52 journalists still detained, 12 are women and 40 are men, it said.

It said of the thirty-six journalists, who have been charged, are seven female journalists and 29 male journalists.

UNESCO Myanmar says 29 journalists have been fled after February 1, 2021. Of the 29 journalists: four female journalists and 25 male journalists are included.

UNESCO Myanmar says three journalists had been killed within a year of the political upheaval.

In that time, 10 news agencies have had their licenses revoked and five have been sued, according to a statement from UNESCO Myanmar.
