Union Election Commission (UEC) on November 3 issued an instruction to states and region sub-election commission to tie stamps to the wall of the polling booth so that no one can take the stamp after voting and replaced with the fake one.
Not to exchange the real stamp with the fake one, a rope must tie to the real stamp’s handle and it must be attached to the wall of the polling booth. In-charge and assistant in-charge of the polling station have to check the stamp every hour according to UEC’s instruction.
“We are worried that when voting, the real stamp issued by the UEC will be exchanged by the imitation. SO, we will tie the stamp and attach it to the polling booth wall. When there are no voters, the In-charge and assistant in-charge of the polling station have to check the stamp,” said chairman of Mandalay region sub-election commission Shein Win.
UEC issued that instruction because there were cases where fake stamps were used in voting at present, he said.
In Hlegu, Pathein, Eain Me and Paung townships experienced use of fake stamps in voting.
But, firmly tie the stamps to the wall of the polling booths are meant for only November 8 General Election and not concerned with advance voting according to chairman of Mandalay region sub-election commission Shein Win.
UEC filed a lawsuit on November 3 with Election Law 59 on the case of using fake stamps at the Hlegu Township Muoma ward No-2 polling booths.
