Trade volume between Myanmar and Thailand reaches over US$1.7 B

Trade volume between Myanmar and Thailand reached over US$1.7 billion till January 2019 and Myanmar exported over US$1 billion worth of products to Thailand, according to Ministry of Commerce.

Myanmar exported US$3.823 billion worth of products and imported US$691.145 million worth of products in 2011-12 FY and exported US$4.576 billion worth of products and imported US$696.369 million worth of products in 2012-13 FY.

Myanmar and Thailand opened No.2 Friendship Bridge on March 19 and it will expand trade and investment, tourism, cultural exchange, transport and relationship between people from both countries. The bridge is built on Moei River and connecting between Myawady and Mae Sot.

Authorities from both countries took a field trip to the border in May 2012 to check location to build the bridge and held a stake-driving ceremony in August 2015. State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi said in the opening ceremony of the bridge that she believes the collaboration between them will increase benefits and cooperation for both countries.

She said she believes the bridge will connect South East Asian countries along the East and West Economic Corridor by crossing Great Mekong sub-region. It will ease traffic jam from the old No.1 Friendship Bridge and commercial transactions can be made freely.
