Total FDI hits over 3,800 USD this FY

The total foreing direct investments are expected to hit up to 5,800 million US dollars in the current fiscal year, according to the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC). 

From October 1, 2018 to August 13, 2019 of this FY, the total FDI hit 3832.466 million US dollars. 

Eleven overseas investments worth 74.335 million US dollars, got the nod at the MIC’s meeting No.13/2019. The MIC allowed two investment proposals and one investments while the Yangon Region Investment Committee gave the permit to eight businesses. It can create 5887 new jobs for locals. These investments are linked to the industry sector. 

During this fiscal year, the MIC allowed 235 foreign investments worth 2291.442 million US dollars. The total FDI including investment promotion, reached 3608.786 million US dollars. 

According to the Special Economic Zone Law, the total FDI reached 223.680 million US dollars including investment promotion. The total FDI amounted to 3832.466 million US dollars. 

Myanmar is implementing the 20-year Myanmar Investment Promotion Plan which aims to enable the country to become a middle-income country by 2030. 

The total FDI is expected to hit over 220 billion US dollars in 20 years and the plan also aims to ensure the inflow of more responsible investments into the country. 

The Myanmar Investment Promotion Plan covers the five-year short-term plan (2016-2017 to 2020-2021), the five-year mid-term plan (2021-2022 to 2025-2026) and the 10-year long-term plan (2026-2027 to 2035-2036). 

The investment targets calculated on base cases aims to annually fetch 5.8 billion US dollars from 2016-17 to 2020-21 FY, 8.5 billion US dollars from 2021-22 to 2025-26 FY, 12.3 billion US dollars from 2026-27 to 2030-31 FY and 17.6 billion US dollars from 2031-32 to 2035-36 FY.
