In order to develop health, education and business sectors and for the smooth travel of the Coco island residents, and under the guidance of the State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and with the supervision of the Ministry of Transport and Communication, the second trip of Yangon-Coco island began her trip from the Sule jetty with M.V Charities owned by Thuriya Sandar Win Co., on October 18.
Coco Island, located 414 kilometers south of Yangon Region, comprises a small group of islands in the northeastern Indian Ocean. It has two big islands with wide expanses of beaches. Coco Island is one of the 45 townships in Yangon Region.
The estimated travel time is 30 hours, and 12 crew, 11 passengers, 7 staff from YESC, 3 from Pyidaungsu Kaung Kyo Saung Party, 4 health care workers, 7 staff from southern district general administrative department, 7 policemen, 16 staff from ACKM solar Co, 3 from Myanmar Telecommunications joined the vessel. They have to stay 5 days quarantine in Coco Island,” said Ye Thu Aung from Myanmar Port Authority.
For the Coco Island locals to have convenience in travelling, Ygn-Coco trip will be run from once in a month to twice in the future.
Under the instruction issued by the Ministry of Health on COVID-19, those coming with the vessel to Coco island had to stay14 days quarantine prior to the trip.
In January and March of this year, Ygn-Coco island trips were run by the supervision of Yangon Region Government.
