Thaungtha to get 90-megawatt power plant to meet summer electricity demand

A 90-megawatt power plant project is being implemented in Taungtha Township, Myingyan District, Mandalay Region, with the use of 20 million cubic feet of gas from Shwe gas project in order to meet local electricity consumption in summer of next year, according to the Ministry of Electricity and Energy.

The power from that plant will be supplied to Myingyan, Thaungtha, Ngazun, Ngatogyi and NyaungU townships through Myingyan 132-KV power station.

The 90-megawatt power station will be installed with 64 1.56megawatt machines with a total capacity of 99.84 megawatts but production capacity will be 90 megawatts with 630 million units per year.

The power project is being implemented by V Power Holding Limited based in Hong Kong under the systems of independent power produce (IPP) and build-operate-own (BOO).

In Myingyan Township of Myingyan District also, a 225-megawatt power station project is being implemented by Sembcorp Myingyan Power Co Ltd. The station started generating 144 megawatts of electricity on May 7 in the first phase and 81 megawatts on October 2 on a commercial scale. It can produce 1,675 million cubic feet per year.
