More than half of the all townships in Yangon Region were left in the dark on December 5 afternoon after the 230-KV grid suffered technical fault, according to Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation (YESC).

The double circuit line of the Yangon 230 KV grid, a primary source of the national grid, suffered from  technical fault, between Shwetaung and Myaungtaga.

"The technical fault was found in the circuit line between Shwetaung and Myaungtaga. Not the whole city suffered power outage. The townships connected to Hlinethaya power sub-station were cut off from electricity. Half of the city suffered from the system breakdown. Now, the section between Myaungtaga and Hlinethaya has been reconnected. We have to take time," said an official from the Call Centre of YESC.

Due to technical fault, townships of Hlinthaya, Insein, Twantay, Dala, Kawhmu, Kungyangon, Seinkgyikhanato, Hline, Mayangon, Kamayut, Sangyaung, Bahan, Alon, Kyimyindine, Kyauktada, Pabedan, Latha, Lanmadaw, Tamwe, Seikkan, Dagon, Pazundaung, Botahtaung, Mingalartaungnyunt, Yankin and South Oakkalapa suffered power outage temporarily.
