Tatmadaw will get out of the politics only when ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) no longer exist, and eternal peace is achieved, said Maj-Gen Soe Naing Oo, chair of the Tatmadaw True News Information Team, at a press conference, on February 23.

The Tatmadaw True News Information Team held a press conference on the situations two months after Tatmadaw’s unilateral ceasefire for the talks on ceasefire and eternal peace and the constitutional amendment, at Yadanathiri Golf Club at Yangon Region Command.

“We all have accepted the fact that the country will develop only when there is peace and stability. The country will see peace and stability only when there is no EAOs. Only then, the country will be on the development path. The Commander-in-Chief has said that Tatmadaw would get out of the politics when the country’s political path is stable,” he added.

“According to theories, the institutions should be strong during the transitional period. In Myanmar, Tatmadaw alone is the strong institution. I would like to tell all to accept the fact that the Tatmadaw is working for the success of democratic transition in order that the country does not veer from the democratic path in the time of democracy transition,” the chair added.

Maj-Gen Tun Tun Nyi, the Vice-Chair of the Tatmadaw True News Information Team said: “The question of how long Tatmadaw will continue to include in the politics is very broad. The reason why the Tatmadaw continues to include in the politics is the country still has EAOs and lacks peace and stability. We need peace and stability in all sectors. Ethnics have assumptions that they will be respected only when they have armed armies."

“In democracy, they should not demand the things they want by taking up arms. We are working to march to democracy and federal system. In doing so, ethnics must give up their armed struggle. It is not an easy task. These problems have long been existed for nearly 70 years. The EAOs have feelings, anxieties and interests. Tatmadaw is working to build mutual understandings at a time when both sides are unable to build trust based on these three facts. We must build trust through mutual understandings,” Maj-Gen Soe Naing Oo said.
