Supporting actor dies on bus waiting to return to Yangon after attending Academy Award Ceremony

Supporting actor U Aung Thar died on a bus this morning while waiting to return to Yangon from Nay Pyi Taw after attending Myanmar’s Academy Award ceremony yesterday.

 “He was a supporting actor. This morning, he died on the bus just after 8am today,” said an official from Myanmar Motion Picture Association.

The artistes who would be attending the ceremony were accommodated at the sports stadium in Nay Pyi Taw.

While a passenger bus was ready to transport the artistes to Yangon, U Aung Thar went unconscious in his seat. When a medical team arrived to treat him, he died.

Supporting actor U Aung Thar, aged over 70, lived in Shwepyithar Township, Yangon Region.

Motion Picture Academy Award Ceremony for the years of 2019, 2020 and 2022 was held at Open Air Theatre near Nay Pyi Taw Town Hall on May 6. Myanmar Motion Picture Association arranged transport of those attending the event.
