Strong wind destroyed houses and buildings in some townships in Chin State and Sagaing Region on March 31, sources said.

A house in Twetwan Village, Tonzan Township in Chin State was collapsed on March 31 and a total of 17 houses and three churches were destroyed by strong wind at Hokyin Village, Kyikha Township in the same day.

“We don’t have information about the damages in details yet. The towns affected by the strong wind are Mindat, Hakha, Htantlan, Matupi and Paletwa,” said an official from Department of Social Welfare of the state.

A total of 77 houses, four churches, a monastery and four schools had their roofs damaged in Matupi on March 31. A total of 87 family households were victimized by strong wind and Ks10.536 million worth of properties were lost.

“The earlier report says a total of 65 houses were damaged their roofs and the number of damages are likely to increase. Most of them are from Kalewa,” said an official from Department of Social Welfare of the region.
