State Counselor to visit Taninthayi Region

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi will pay a three day visit to Taninthayi Region starting from February 13 to 15. During her visit, she will visit Dawei, Myeik and Kawthung Districts.

“We knew only the draft of her trip. On February 13, State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi will be in Myeik, on February 14, she will visit islands in Taninthayi Region and on February 15, she will be in Kawthaung and Dawei,” said Myint Maung, Minister for Natural Resources and environmental Conservation of Taninthayi Region Government.

Security measures have been beef up in Taninthayi Region for State Counselor’s visit. 

She has been to Taninthayi Region in 1990 for the election and visited Dawei and Myeik. After releasing from her house arrest, she visited Dawei and Longlone in January 29, 2012 and Myeik and Kyunsu Townships in March, 2012. On December 22, 2012, she visited Myeik and Kawthaung mass meeting and on March 2013, she visited Kan Pauk region in Dawei District by the invitation of Total Company.

According to the NLD Myeik District News and Information Committee, she will be visiting BEHS (7) in Myeik and birds’ nest house in Strand Road in Myiek on February 13.

On February 14, she will be visiting Myeik islands and in the evening, she will leave for Kawthaung. On February 15, she will meet with people of Kawthaung. Then, she will be leaving to Dawei and meet with local people of Dawei. She will be leaving Nay Pyi Taw that evening. The venue of the meeting and the detail programme were not announced.
