NAYPYITAW- State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who is also the Chairperson of the National Reconciliation and Peace Center met with Chairman of Karen National Union(KNU) Saw Mutu Sae Poe at the International Convention Center in Nay Pyi Taw on October 28th, according to the statement released by the State Counsellor’s Office.

On the occasion, both sides discussed about the ways to overcome challenges in the current peace making process, gaining agreements on the frameworks for implementation of Nation Ceasefire Agreement (NCA), future activities in the peace process beyond the 2020 election and holding a Joint Implementation Coordination Meeting (JICM).

Moreover, they frankly discussed about the absence of the delegation led by General Ywet Sit, Chairman of Restoration Council of Shan State (RCSS), in the 4th Anniversary of NCA signing and plan for long-lasting peace and national reconciliation.

Although the delegation led by RCSS’s Chair General Ywet Sit had planned to leave for Nay Pyi Taw via Taunggyi from their headquarter on October 25th aiming to attend the 4th Anniversary of NCA signing ceremony and coordination meeting on JICM, they canceled their trip to Nay Pyi Taw because the army [Tatmadaw] didn’t allow RCSS’s trip by cars.

The army said that they told to the RCSS to come to Nay Pyi Taw via Tarchileik Township by aircraft because the trip of RCSS’s chair General Ywet Sit was declared unsafe due to insecurity of the region.
