In his New Year message on January 1, 2025, State Administration Council (SAC) Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing addressed the nation’s challenges, including ongoing armed conflicts and the misuse of democracy to cause national division.

He expressed concern that some ethnic leaders are using federal rights and democracy as pretexts for self-serving goals, perpetuating armed conflicts instead of genuinely pursuing democratic practices. He urged all stakeholders to resolve conflicts through political dialogue and cooperation, emphasizing that only democratic methods can bring stability and progress to the nation.

The Chairman reflected on significant achievements in 2024, such as the successful national census and the 5th National Sports Festival. He highlighted these milestones as evidence of Myanmar’s progress despite ongoing challenges. He credited the collective efforts of the government, military, and citizens in ensuring stability, national defense, and the prevention of disunity as key factors contributing to these successes.

He called for continued unity and patriotism among Myanmar’s people, stressing the importance of protecting the country’s sovereignty and avoiding external dependency. He noted that national defense and solidarity are critical for sustaining progress and strengthening the nation’s position on the global stage. He reminded citizens that their contributions, both individually and collectively, are vital for the country’s future.

The Chairman reaffirmed the SAC’s commitment to holding a free and fair election, which he described as the ultimate goal of the council. He assured citizens that the government is working to ensure that Myanmar returns to the democratic path. He called on everyone to actively participate in the election process, viewing it as a significant step toward achieving the democratic aspirations of the nation.

Reflecting on the unity displayed in 2024, the Chairman encouraged the people to continue fostering national solidarity. He urged citizens to work together to ensure the success of the upcoming election, which he said would represent a major milestone for the country’s democratic future. He expressed hope that 2025 would be a year where the aspirations of the nation are realized and democracy is firmly re-established.
