Some local residents have planned to stage a protest in Sittwe of Rakhine State on November 25 against granting citizenship under ethnic Kaman name to Bengalis from Kyaukmawni Village in Yanbye Township, resettlement plans in southern Maungtaw and planned appointment of young Bengali schoolteachers.

The protest will also be joined by some political parties, monks and social organizations in Sittwe.

"One of the issues is granting citizenship under Kaman name to Bengalis in Kyaukmawni Village. Other issues include appointing Bengali teachers in Maungtaw. Recently, a similar protest was staged in Maungtaw. So we will also be staging such a protest in Sittwe. Other towns will be informed about it. The protest will be joined by Arakan National Party and Union Solidarity and Development Party, monks working on disciplinary enforcement and social aid and social organizations from Sittwe," said Aung Htay, one of the organizers.

The protest has been planned after the decision made by a meeting that took place in Sittwe on November 11.
