The Shan Nationalities Democratic Party is registered as the Shan and Nationalities Democratic Party (White Tiger Party) at the Union Election Commission (UEC) and it will participate in the entire Union in the election, said U Sai Ai Pao, Chairman of the party.
A meeting with the White Tiger Party and the media was held in the afternoon of March 8 at the White Tiger Party headquarters located at MMM Condo in Kanna Road, Ahlone Township.
"So that all members of the Union can participate, we have registered a new party at the UEC Commission on February 27 as the Shan and Nationalities Democratic Party (White Tiger Party)," U Sai Ai Pao said.
He also said that if the White Tiger Party contests the election in only three or four regions and states, it will be impossible for us to bring peace for the Union.
"I want the Union to be peaceful and to develop. I want the majority of people of the Union, including farmers, workers, grassroots level people, staff, and small and medium-sized businesses to develop. We want them to grow and we want peace. That's why we will compete nationwide," said U Sai Ai Pao.
He said that the party will be focused on the 45 townships in Yangon Region, 26 townships in Ayeyawady Region, 28 townships in Bago Region, 28 townships in Mandalay Region, 25 townships in Magway Region, eight townships in Nay Pyi Taw, and 46 townships in Shan State at the election.
"Of the 55 townships in Shan State, we are only competing in 46 townships as we cannot compete in nine townships. Wa region have not been able to hold elections since 2010. We will not compete in two townships in Kokang self-administered zone and Palaung self-administered zone. We will compete in Pa'O self-administered zone and Danu self-administered zone. We will compete in those places as there are about one-third of Shan nationalities in those areas. In Pa'O self-administered zone, the population is over 400,000 and Shan has about 100,000," he said.
The White Tiger Party won 58 parliamentary seats in the 2010 election, but only one parliamentary seat won in the 2015 election.
