Flood-affected villages in the Pone Inn region of Southern Shan State are in desperate need of food and rehabilitation assistance, according to local reports.

The area, situated between His-Hseng and Ho Pone Townships in Taunggyi District, has been experiencing severe flooding since August, causing extensive damage to both paddy fields and homes.

The floods have devastated over 30,000 acres of rice paddies, particularly impacting the Naung Mun Shan strain traditionally grown in the area.

Villages such as Hse Lae, Naung Hsant, Pan Lone, and Pan Mune are among the more than 20 submerged villages that urgently require aid.

Farmers in the region reported that cultivating one acre of rice costs over 1.5 million kyats, but the flooding destroyed their crops just before harvest.

A farmer from Naung Hsant village expressed concern over how they would secure the funds necessary for next year’s planting season.

With many villagers left unemployed due to the floods, they are now reliant on food donations from charitable organizations.

According to a local leader from Naung Hsant, essential supplies such as rice, oil, medicine, and salt are urgently needed in these affected areas.

Residents stated that the scale of flooding this year is unprecedented in the Pone Inn region.
