Several reservoirs exceed capacity across regions, department of Irrigation reports

The Irrigation and Water Utilization Department, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation, has announced that some reservoirs in the Bago and Ayeyawady Regions, including the Kyee-Ohn and Kyee-Wa Dams, have exceeded their designated water storage capacities.

In eastern Bago Region, the dams surpassing their limits include: Ye Thoe Dam in Oktwin Township by 1.5 feet, Minye Dam by 0.3 feet, Ngamwe Dam in Phyu Township by 0.3 feet, Bawni Dam in Daik-U Township by 0.3 feet and Pyin Bone Gyi Dam by 1 foot.

In Magway Region, the Kyee-Ohn and Kyee-Wa Dam in Pwintbyu Township has exceeded its limit by 9.8 feet.

In Yangon Region, Mahuya (Ngamoeyeik) Dam has exceeded its capacity by 0.8 feet, while Ngamoeyeik Dam has risen by 1.9 feet. 

In Taikkyi Township, Tabu Hla Dam has exceeded by 1.8 feet.

In Ayeyarwady Region, the Ma Mya Dam in Myanaung Township has surpassed its capacity by 2.2 feet, and Kanyin Dam in Ingapu Township by 3.4 feet.

Additional dams that have exceeded their limits include: Ye Boak Dam in Hlaing Bwe Township, Kayin State by 1.1 feet, Kadaik Dam in Mon State by 0.4 feet, Kan Gyi Kone Dam in Pyay Township, western Bago Region by 0.6 feet, Shwe Taung Dam in Shwe Taung Township by 0.3 feet, Khawar Dam in Padaung Township by 0.4 feet and Ngalaik Dam in Oattarathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw by 0.7 feet.

The Department of Irrigation has also reported that there are 880 water-related infrastructure facilities across the country, including 246 reservoirs, 144 weirs, 72 lakes, 199 sluice gates, and 219 river water-pumping stations, providing irrigation for over 3.1 million acres nationwide.
