Seized narcotics, precursor chemicals worth over $192m incinerated in Yangon

The seized narcotic drugs and precursor chemicals worth over US$192 million were destroyed in Hlinetharyar Township, Yangon, on June 26 to mark the 35th anniversary of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. 

Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein delivered a speech on the occasion, and Yangon Region Minister for Security and Border Affairs Colonel Win Tint read out a message sent by chairman of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control and Union Minister for Home Affairs Lieutenant General Soe Htut.

Head of Yangon Region Police Force Police Brigadier General Myo Min Htaik explained incineration of the seized drugs. Next, those in attendance viewed the drugs and chemicals to be destroyed, and officials pressed the button to incinerate them.

“We will be incinerating 33 items of narcotics. They are worth over US$ 192 million, according to the market price,” said Police Brig-Gen Myo Min Htaik.

He added that those drugs to be destroyed were related to 5,914 cases out of the seizures from Yangon Region, Ayeyawady Region, Rakhine State, Mon State and Kayin State and those made by No.1 Border Guard Police Force and Expressway Police Force.
