Security tightened in Yangon

Due to some terror rumors, the Region government has taken stricter security measures at crowded places such as famous pagodas, airport and VIP buildings in Yangon, said Colonel Aung Soe Moe, Region Minister for Security and Border Affairs, at the press conference on the Region government’s the undertakings during the third-year tenure, on June 5.

No-2 security police force is responsible for security in Yangon Region. There were terror attacks in other countries. As we have got other news, we are taking security measures effectively. We are also working for the security of embassies and diplomatic houses,” he added.

Yangon has a population of around seven million. The security measure is broad. The Myanmar Police Force takes security measures at the crowded places, in cooperation with officials of the relevant ministries.

The region police is working on the regional stability and rule of law, at the respective township police stations. Due to the insufficient number of police members, the police force is taking security measures with the assistance of technology, he continued.

“Currently, CCTVs are being installed in the places like Kandawgyi, Inya Lake, Gaba-Aye pagoda road, Mahabandoola Park, the City Hall and other significant places. In addition, the CCTVs have been installed in every township where the Community-Based Tourism projects are located, he added.
