A second-year student at the Agriculture and Livestock Science Training School in Pyinmana has been arrested along with evidence after committing a robbery and murder against a teacher living with the principal.
The incident occurred on November 2 at 4:45 a.m. at the residence of the principal, Daw Win Yi, within the school compound in Shwe Chi Ward, Pyinmana Township, Nay Pyi Taw Council Area. The suspect, Myo Min Thu, a second-year student at the school, allegedly entered the house and attacked the principal and another teacher, Daw On Saw, with a knife. He reportedly stole a gold ring with a one-carat diamond valued at approximately 2.4 million kyats and 1.25 million kyats in cash before fleeing.
During the robbery, Daw Win Yi sustained knife injuries, while Daw On Saw died from her injuries. A case was opened at the Pyinmana police station, and efforts were made to arrest the suspect.
Security personnel investigated the incident, and at 10:05 a.m. the same day, they apprehended the suspect, Myo Min Thu, at the Bawgathiri Bus Terminal in Bawgawadi Ward, Pyinmana, as he was attempting to leave for Yangon on the Nya Kyel Min passenger bus. The authorities seized the stolen items as evidence.
According to investigations, Myo Min Thu is a second-year student at the Agriculture and Livestock Science Training School. Facing financial difficulties and dissatisfied with the principal’s requirement to participate in fieldwork, he allegedly decided to rob and murder. He entered the principal’s residence, attacked Daw Win Yi and Daw On Saw with a knife, and fled with the stolen diamond ring and cash.
Legal action is being taken to prosecute Myo Min Thu for the murder and robbery under the law.
